Labrusca: A family of grapes – Vitis Labrusca – native to North America.*

Fermentation: The natural process in which yeast converts sugar to alcohol.*

Brix: A measure of sugar in grapes: one degree Brix equals 10 grams of sugar per litre. Mature grapes are typically 21 to 25 Brix, equating to 11 to 13 percent alchohol after fermentation.*

Quality: The VQA designation (Vintners Quality Alliance) requires a professional tasting panel to approve each wine.

Hybrid: Grape varieties developed, typically by crossing European varieties with native North American varieties. The plant breeder’s objectives include developing varieties that ripen early, resist disease or are winter-hardy.*
