Acreage: British Columbia currently has approximately 7,500 acres under vine, up from just 1,000 acres planted in 1989.

Quality: The VQA designation (Vintners Quality Alliance) requires a professional tasting panel to approve each wine.

Growing Regions: There are five main DVAs (Designated Viticultural Areas) in British Columbia—the Okanagan Valley, Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, the Fraser Valley and the Similkameen Valley.

Organic: A technique for growing grapes without using chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides or commercial fertilizers.*

Geology: Mt. Boucherie (near Kelowna) home to a number of wineries, is an extinct volcano.
