Acreage: British Columbia currently has approximately 7,500 acres under vine, up from just 1,000 acres planted in 1989.

VQA: VQA=100% BC - All British Columbia wines bearing the VQA symbol must be made from 100% BC grown grapes. The wines are screened by a professional tasting panel and wines found faulty cannot be sold as VQA wines.*

Botrytis: A fungus that attacks grape skins. In favourable conditions, it dehydrates grapes, allowing the production of intense dessert wines.*

History: In 1859, Oblate missionary Father Charles Pandosy planted the first vineyard at the Oblate Mission near present-day Kelowna.

Varietals: 48% of British Columbia’s wines are white. 52% are red. 97.8% are made from vinifera grapes and 2.2% from hybrids.
