Meyer Family Vineyard Announces 2008 Steve Yzerman Tribute Series

The Meyer Family Vineyards is pleased to announce that its much anticipated 2008 Tribute Series will honour “The Captain,” Steve Yzerman.

Yzerman, a gold medal Olympian and Executive Director of the Canadian Men’s Olympic Hockey team, enjoyed a long career playing with the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL.

Each year, the Meyer Family honours a Western Canadian who has made an outstanding contribution and it makes a $5,000 donation to a charity chosen by the honouree.

Yzerman, a native of Cranbrook, B.C. has chosen to direct the funds to the ‘Cranbrook Minor Hockey Association Let A Kid Play’ fund, which helps families that are stretched to cover the costs of playing hockey.

The Meyer Family will release the 2008 Tribute Series December 1, 2009.

“The nose has an intensity of stone fruit interlaced with citrus and a good line of minerality which is backed with excellent oak integration,” says Chris Carson, the Meyer Family winemaker. “The palate is dry, with the mid-palate elegant and textured. Due to the slightly cooler season, the wine has an excellent finish with crisp acidity which gives it length and longevity.”

With fewer than 300 cases of this world class chardonnay, it’s expected to sell out quickly. Online ordering begins November 20th and orders will be shipped the first week of December.

"We think the 2008 Steve Yzerman Tribute Series will be our finest Chardonnay yet, and we are delighted to be aligned with a champion like Steve,” says owner, JAK Meyer. “We felt this exceptional leader was an apt choice for our tribute given his long contribution to sport and the upcoming 2010 Winter Olympics.”
