Pipe Dreams Vineyard and Estate Winery
It’s a truism that dreams work when you do. This is deeply illustrated by John Ness, the owner of Pipe Dreams, one of Oliver’s newest wineries. After childhood summers with his family experiencing the Okanagan, John formed a lifelong dream to return and live among grapevines. So, he secured prime grape growing land and planted some less-common-in-BC varietals, ones that are best suited to the site: Kerner, Zweigelt, Gamay and Grüner Veltliner among them, as well as Merlot. New to the business, he enlisted veteran Canadian winemaker Mark Wendenburg to make the wines by hand in small lots. Wines made from a special place. Thus, his pipe dream is becoming a reality. The tasting room opened in late 2015, the winery is set to become a welcomed visitor destination for the north Oliver area, especially with the plan to add accommodation, food services, and an outdoor seating area. As he gets ready to share his wines with visitors, John’s honest intentions are that the wines of Pipe Dreams offer an authentic expression of the land, while inspiring people to challenge themselves to achieve beyond their wildest imagination.
