Okanagan Valley Wineries
Lunessence Winery & Vineyard honours a commitment to crafting fine wines which showcase the unique terroir of the Okanagan Valley. We believe in sustainable, environmentally sensitive viticulture, respecting the vineyard as a living and varied ecosystem. Each bottle is a proud expression of the earth it came from. Both in the vineyard and in the winery classical music reverberates. At Lunessence, it is our belief that exposure to classical music helps produce well-balanced wines.
Our boutique winery specializes in premium quality wines from grapes grown entirely on the Naramata Bench. From our first vintage in 2005, we have established our reputation for producing award winning wines with great aromas and full flavour, show casing the terroir of our wine region. Featuring fruit forward whites and rose, as well as rich, barrel aged reds and fortified wine, we generally release 12 different wines each year. These are small lots which often sell out quickly. Open from Spring through Fall, visitors enjoy our barrel cellar tasting experience. We also offer deli & cheese platters with wine by the glass on our lakeview patio. Visit our website for full details and updated hours.
Marichel Vineyard is a small winery producing limited quantities of fine wine. All our wines are made from grapes grown exclusively on the Naramata Bench. The Naramata Bench in BC’s Okanagan Valley is a unique grape-growing area, unlike any other on wine region on earth. Rich, ripe, full-bodied red and white wines grown at 50 degrees latitude? It happens nowhere else on the planet. The Okanagan Valley contains Canada’s only desert, with hot summers and long, long daylight hours. And, as if Nature intended to make a good thing even better, Okanagan Lake provides a vast thermal sink to moderate the excessively hot and cold temperatures common to arid regions. It’s a “Goldilocks” appellation: not too hot, and not too cold. From both a geographic and winemaking perspective, the heart of the Okanagan Valley is the Naramata Bench. Ideally situated to capture the maximum amount of sunlight, and nurtured by the moderating influence of Okanagan Lake, “The Bench” epitomizes the often claimed - but rarely realized - perfect terroir. The Bench areas closest to the lake, where Marichel Vineyard is located, are comprised of glacial soils laid down over millennia. Our vineyard is planted in sandy and silty loams of low natural vigour. This moderates vegetative growth in the vines while encouraging the vines to bring the fruit to the peak of flavour and aroma.
“Nature delivers everything of value in wine. You can’t add; you can only destroy what naturally exists in the fruit,” says winemaker Bertus Albertyn. “A winemaker should see himself as observer and preserver rather than ‘maker,’ which is why we allow the winemaking process space and time to go at its own pace. Our job is simply to capture and preserve the unique flavours of our soil, our climate and our weather and translate that potential into exceptional wine.” Working with fruit produced exclusively in our family estate vineyards, we make our wine with minimum intervention. We choose not to add inoculants, sugar or other additives because, though they speed up the process and sweeten the product, they mask and muddy the flavour subtleties only available from nature. Our simple, patient approach builds wines of beauty and detail: rich, daring reds and powerful, elegant whites. Maverick Estate Winery’s emblem is inspired by the pictographs drawn on cave walls around South Africa many thousands of years ago. Our emblem represents the enthusiastically unconventional free thinker. Whether in ancient times or today, Mavericks are not afraid to forge their own path and stay true to what they believe in. We are Maverick: uncompromising in our pursuit and unrestrained in our enjoyment of exceptional wine.

MOCOJO is a boutique family winery located on the beautiful Naramata Bench. Located at 1202 Gawne Rd our tasting room was opened in June 2014 offering Gewurztraminer and Viognier with the addition of Marechal Foch and Malbec in the fall. We produced 750 cases of wine in total for this first vintage. In the spring of 2015 we added our Rosé and that fall our Merlot. Production for the 2014 vintages was 950 cases. Winemaker Kon is creating something new for 2015 and says there will be an increase in MOCOJO production again this year! Everything at MOCOJO is a labor of love for the Oh family from spring pruning, through the sunny days of summer, the rewards of harvest and the creation of our wine. We invite you to visit our quaint tasting room overlooking MOCOJO vineyard and Okanagan Lake. The chances are very good that you will be served by Kon himself and he is always happy to share his knowledge with you. Be prepared to stay awhile as he is rather passionate about vineyard life.
