Acreage: British Columbia currently has an estimated 9,100 acres under vine, up from just 1,000 acres planted in 1989.

Vinifera: A species of grape–Vitis Vinifera–that produces the classic wine grapes that have spread from the vineyards of Europe.*

Terroir: Borrowed from the French, this term encompasses the entire environment–soil, climate, aspect–that makes a vineyard special.*

Botrytis: A fungus that attacks grape skins. In favourable conditions, it dehydrates grapes, allowing the production of intense dessert wines.*

Clone: The mutation of a species. Growers select and propagate clones selected for such desirable qualities as early ripening, vivid flavour and deep colour.*

ChefmeetsGrape – BC Food Designed for BC Wine

Come taste the fresh flavours of BC, along with new fall releases from the Wines of British Columbia

It doesn’t get any more BC than this. Fans of BC food and wine should plan to attend the fourth annual ChefmeetsGrape! To be held on Thursday, September 18 from 7pm to 10pm at the Rocky Mountaineer Station in Vancouver. The event brings together quintessential BC cuisine with the new fall releases from the Wines of British Columbia - with more than thirty BC VQA wineries to be represented.

And who better to marry quintessential BC food and BC wines than BC’s top chefs? BC’s red-hot culinary landscape is enhanced by our many award-winning wines. The twelve restaurant chefs in this year’s event, renowned for their flair in pairing food with wines, will again compete at ChefmeetsGrape for both “Peoples Choice” and “Judges Choice” honours, as they each create appetizer-sized portions of a dish using BC ingredients, paired with their selected BC VQA wine. This year, enjoy BC VQA wines paired with wild BC seafood - including wild BC salmon, wild sablefish, and sardines. Come to taste, sip, vote and enjoy an evening of great BC wine, food and fun!

The event is organized by the British Columbia Wine Institute (BCWI) and is also a fundraiser for Ocean Wise. Partial proceeds from ticket sales will go to this Vancouver Aquarium conservation program, which promotes sustainable seafood choices in our restaurants. Tickets are $75 plus GST, and are available at the following VQA Wine Stores:
