Acreage: British Columbia currently has an estimated 9,100 acres under vine, up from just 1,000 acres planted in 1989.

More awards: Jackson Triggs - Okanagan won the 2006 Rosemount Estate Trophy for Best Shiraz/Syrah of the year at the International Wine and Spirit Competition in London, England. A first for a North American Winery since they began awarding the trophy in 1994!

Organic: A technique for growing grapes without using chemicals such as pesticides, herbicides or commercial fertilizers.*

Lieutenant Governor Awards VQA Wineries

Kelowna, BC – The Honourable Iona Campagnolo is in the Okanagan visiting the winners of the 2007 Lieutenant Governor’s Awards of Excellence in British Columbia Wines. BC’s VQA wineries Desert Hills, Jackson-Triggs Okanagan Estates, Noble Ridge Vineyard and Winery, Sandhill, Sumac Ridge Estate Winery and Thornhaven Estates Winery were all singled out for the 2007 Lieutenant Governor’s Award of Excellence from over 180 entries in this year’s competition.

The Honourable Iona Campagnolo thanked the BC Wine Institute for its support in firmly establishing the Lieutenant Governor’s Awards of Excellence in BC Wines program - now in its 5th year. The LG was joined by the Consuls-General, located in Vancouver, from over 17 countries, along with local guests at each winery for their award presentations.
